This course introduces participants to the fundamentals of emotional intelligence (EQ) and its relevance to leading others. Supervisors and managers will explore the EQ-i 2.0 framework and identify how emotional intelligence supports effective supervision and team engagement. Participants will leave with actionable strategies for applying EQ in hiring, coaching, and team development to foster engagement and high performance.

This course is part of NRECA's Supervisor and Manager Development Program (SMDP).

 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Recognize when an element is "overdone" and how to address it constructively.
  • Define emotional intelligence and describe its relevance to leadership.
  • Gain insight on Reuven Bar-On's EQ-i 2.0 framework. Describe how each element manifests in staff behaviors, both positively and negatively.
  • Identify coaching strategies for improving elements that show up at lower levels.

 

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

This program is intended for co-op staff with leadership responsibilities ranging from key contributors considering a supervisory role, to new and experienced supervisors and mid-level managers.

ATTENDEE COST

Please note this course is part of the 2025/2026 AIEC Continuing Education Program. Twenty-seven co-ops participate in the AIEC Continuing Education Program and share the cost of NRECA training hosted by the AIEC. An admin fee of $25 per participant will be charged for meals, course setup, and Zoom membership.

    CANCELLATION POLICY

    Cancellations made prior to the registration deadline will not be charged. Cancellations made within 48 hours of the course or if there is a "No Show," will be charged $25. Substitutions are allowed.
