Whether your co-op has a new CEO, or a seasoned one, the practice of building the board-CEO relationship is critical. With more than a third of current electric cooperative CEOs eligible to retire within 5 years, many boards are in the process of building a working relationship with a new CEO. This course will discuss the importance of first establishing clear goals and expectations with the CEO that align with the cooperative’s mission. Directors will explore why regular feedback is critical to the CEO’s success. Learn how to approach these conversations constructively - speaking with one voice. Directors will be equipped to foster a healthy, productive board-CEO relationship grounded in regular and constructive feedback, mutual respect, trust, and aligned expectations. KEY TOPICS- Techniques for building trust between the board and CEO through delivery of feedback in a respectful and constructive way in simulated boardroom scenarios.
- Importance of providing clear, actionable, and regular feedback to the electric co-op CEO.
- Strategies for overcoming barriers to providing feedback to the CEO.
- Aligning CEO performance expectations with cooperative goals and strategic priorities.
- Arriving at consensus on feedback to be provided to the CEO given disparate director views in a simulated situation.

Please note this course is part of the 2025/2026 AIEC Continuing
Education Program. Twenty-seven co-ops participate in the AIEC Continuing
Education Program and share the cost of NRECA training hosted by the AIEC. Each registration will be charged $25 per person
admin fee for snacks, meals, Zoom membership and room setup. *All classes require a minimum of 15 in-person attendees. CANCELLATION POLICYCancellations made prior to the registration deadline will not be
charged. Cancellations within 48
hours of the course or a “No Show,” will be charged the full registration amount.
